PAGE Junior College, Banjara Hills, Annual Kite Flying Festival January 7th, 2018

The tradition of kite flying has been followed over generations in the Indian society. Kites are flown early in the New Year when the Sun begins its movement away from the Tropic of Capricorn. This period marks the gradual end of winter and the onset of summer and also indicates the beginning of the harvest season. PAGE Junior College, Banjara Hills held their Annual Kite Festival on the 7th of January, 2018 at the Sultan-Ul-Loom College grounds in Banjara Hills. Students from Classes 8, 9 & 10 in schools all around the vicinity had been invited to attend with their parents. It was a joy to see the kids playing happily and competing with one another. Of special note is Master Haaris Khan, student of Sri Chaitanya School whom we named the “terror of the skies” as he cut no less than sixteen kites!! Bhushan from Government School came second with ten. Shouts of “pench” “dheel” and “katta” rent the skies throughout the morning. At last the festival ended with the students being given snacks and sweets distribution. Hope to see you back again next year guys!!
